The arena (which later became Madison Square Garden) was leased to band leader, Patrick Gilmore, who used it to present shows and concerts.

These engravings and ads provide an excellent historical record of people, places, and events important to mid-Victorian America. This collection includes not only medical quackery ads, but many images from the 1876 Centennial Exposition. The Exposition was a World's Fair held in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia from May 10 to November 10, 1876, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia.
