This is an original 1890 color chromolithograph of a mosaic from Autun, France depicting the Greek mythological hero Bellerophon slaying the chimera, which was recognized as one of Bellerophon's greatest feats. The Chimera was a fire breathing female mythical monster, depicted by Homer as a beast with a lion's head, snake's tail and goat's body. The creature was said to have been native to Lycia, Turkey.
