This is an original 1881 black and white steel engraving by John Chester Buttre (1821-1893) of an English Rococo style painting by John Woollaston that portrays the first First Lady of the United States, Martha Dandridge Custis Washington (1731-1802). Martha was also the wife of George Washington (1732-1799), the first President of the United States.
