This is an original 1914 black and white halftone print of the ruined Roman homes in the destroyed city of Pompeii, which was buried under volcanic ash when Mount Vesuvius erupted one fateful day. Along with its sister city of Herculaneum (which was also buried and preserved), the pair are very popular Italian tourist destinations to this day.
