This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of a drawing of the casualties on the front lines in World War I. The caption writes, "Instinct with the very spirit of battle is this drawing by a German artist, Schwormstadt, of a fight going on in the Western zone. German troops are portrayed as having issued from their trenches on a charge against the French barbed-wire entanglements seen in the background..."
