A native of South Bend, Washington, Ensign George Franklin Heuston of the United States Merchant Marines received his art education under Hawthorne, Bridgman and Karl Anderson. Heuston joined the U. S. military upon the onset of World War II. Despite his near-death experience after being torpedoed in the Atlantic Ocean and spending eight days on a lifeboat, Heuston continued his craft. His artworks have been included in the Second Annual Merchant SeamenÕs Art Exhibition of the United SeamenÕs Service at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D. C., as well as at the Grand Central Art Galleries in New York City, where he won third prize.
