This is an original 1899 color lithographed map of the Battle of Borodino that occurred on September 7, 1812 CE. The battle went down in history as the bloodiest day in the French invasion of Russia. The French army under Napoleon attacked the Russian Imperial Army led by Gen. Mikhail Kutuzov near the village of Borodino. The French forces numbered around 130,000 total to the Russian 120,000 men. The result was a French victory that forced the retreat of the Russian army. An estimated 35,000 French soldiers were killed and 45,000 Russian troops died.
