Maxfield Parrish
(1870-1966) Frederick Maxfield Parrish was born into a Philadelphia Quaker family, the son of a landscape painter and etcher. He studied in France, England, at Haverford College, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and at Drexel Institute where he was a student of Howard Pyle. He is best known for his highly imaginative and fantastical images and illustrated many childrenÕs books. He was an excellent colorist and his use of blue, particularly for skies, became known as Parrish Blue. He did many covers for CollierÕs and also gained acclaim for his work as a muralist.
