This is an original 1849 black and white copper engraving of Joseph being sold into slavery by his jealous brothers. When Joseph grew up, he had become one of the most powerful men in Egypt, and upon seeing his brothers years later, forgave them. We are assuming that the artist of this image is Overbec, and the engraver, J. B. Neagle.

Period Paper is pleased to present a rare collection of copper-plate engravings depicting the Jewish antiquities and the Jewish War from a translation of Flavius Josephus' genuine works. Josephus (37-100 AD), was a Jewish historian and provided valuable information on the background of early Christianity, and of Judaism in the 1st century. These copper-plate engravings, which accompanied the manuscript, offer remarkable depth and vivid detailing. Please take a closer look at these images, as they are absolutely stunning in their contrast, and would look exceptional framed.
