This is an original 1849 black and white copper engraving of the Mount of Olives in East Jerusalem. The site is associated with Christian, Jewish, and Islamic traditions. Seen in the background is a view of Jerusalem, Israel. We are assuming that the artist of this image was W. H. Bartlett, and the engraver, J. Archer.

Period Paper is pleased to present a rare collection of copper-plate engravings depicting the Jewish antiquities and the Jewish War from a translation of Flavius Josephus' genuine works. Josephus (37-100 AD), was a Jewish historian and provided valuable information on the background of early Christianity, and of Judaism in the 1st century. These copper-plate engravings, which accompanied the manuscript, offer remarkable depth and vivid detailing. Please take a closer look at these images, as they are absolutely stunning in their contrast, and would look exceptional framed.
