This is an original 1875 monochrome woodcut of "Town and Castle of Acapulco, Mexico - Scene of the Recent Massacre." The massacre to which the title refers is most likely connected to the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). Acapulco became an increasingly important port during the California Gold Rush in the mid-nineteenth century.
