Captained by Captain Samuel Hood, the Juno set sail from Malta in 1793, joining the Mediterranean Fleet, after post-revolutionary, Republican France, declared itself the enemy of all States possessing a monarchical government. British and Spanish ships and troops arrived in Toulon to support Royalist French allies occupying the port city of Toulon, a key naval arsenal for France. The siege of Toulon lasted from September 1793 to December 1793.
On 18 December 1793, the Royalist forces were suppressed after a bloody battle and the Juno was forced to make a daring escape. The Siege of Toulon was an early Republican victory over Royalist rebellion in France.
