This is an original 1907 tipped-in halftone print of a scene from The Tragicall History of the Life and Death of Dr. Faustus. This play was based on the Faust story where a man sells his soul to the devil. The original was created by Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn. Rembrandt was a Dutch painter and etcher. He is considered one of the greatest printmakers in European art history and the most important in Dutch history. His contributions to art came in a period of great wealth and cultural achievement that historians call the Dutch Golden Age.
