This is an original 1836 black and white in-text wood engraving of an Egyptian coffin referred to here as the "Exterior case of a mummy" from the British Museum. This piece would be the final layer of mummification before being interred into the sarcophagus and the tomb after that. The coffin is would depict the person wearing jewelry and be adorned with hieroglyphics depicting their life and the journey they will take in the afterlife.
