This is an original 1908 halftone print of George Spencer, the English aeronaut, being aided by onlookers in Croyden and avoiding danger when his air balloon ran out of gas and began to head toward trees. The helpful crowd grabbed the ropes of the airship to prevent disaster. His trip was from the gas works in London around the West End and to St. Paul's.
