This is an original 1933 halftone print of soldiers gathered to, "guarantee their miners their right of free assemblage, to prevent rather than to put down riots. Which is why Pennsylvania's Governor Gifford Pinchot now rates next to Union Organizer John L. Lewis in the affection of striking miners."

Photography by William M. Rittase (1894-1968). He was an American photographer active from the 1920s to the 1930s. He is best known for his industrial photography and portraits often used in Fortune Magazine.
