This is an original 1875 black and white woodcut which depicts the haughty and proud Charles III, Duke of Bourbon and distinguished military leader who was elected Constable of France by King Francis I. However, his relationship with the French king turned sour after the king refused to allow him to keep Milan after the Battle of Marignano. He plotted against his liege, and had to flee to Italy when it fell through.
