The Hotel Adlon was first erected in 1907 by wine merchant and restauranteur Lorenz Adlon. The prestigious resort hosted such guests as Charlie Chaplin, Herbert Hoover, as well served as a international centre for journalists. During World War II, parts of the hotel were converted into a military hospital. Though the original building survived World War I and World War II, a fire, which started in the hotel's wine cellar, destroyed it in 1945. In 1997, the hotel was rebuilt by a German investment firm. Today, it currently serves as the Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin, which is part of the Kempinski hotel chain.
Interesting Fact:
It was at the Hotel Adlon that Michael Jackson waved his son Blanket out of the window during his visit to Berlin.
