This is an original 1906 black and white intaglio print of French statesmen, Georges Danton. Nicknamed "the mountain" by his colleagues because of his large, athletic physique, Danton was a leading member of the National Convention of the Third Estate. He also was an outspoken supporter of the execution of King Louis XVI which occurred in 1793. During the Reign of Terror, Danton was accused of financial corruption and was guillotined by the masses on April 5, 1794.
