This is an original 1906 black and white intaglio print of French astronomer, Jean Sylvian Bailley who was elected president of the Third Estate on May 5, 1789 and who led the proceeding of the Tennis Court Oath. He was also a lead participant in the storming of the Bastille and became the first mayor of Paris during the Revolution. He was later arrested and brought before a tribunal on November 12, 1793 where he was guillotined by the mob.
