1920 Rotogravure WWI St. Quentin Canal Secret Enemy German Troops Hiding WAR1

This is an original 1920 World War I sepia Rotogravure of a view of the St. Quentin Canal. At the left, in the hillside, is a secret entrance where thousands of German troops hid. Their tactic failed, however, when the 27th and 30th American Divisions broke through the Hindenburg Line and the troops poured out of the rear. The enemy was then over taken by American tanks.
