This is an original 1944 World War II halftone print of "Debarkation Drill (Sicilian Invasion)."

A native of Kensington, Maryland, Lieutenant Mitchell Jamieson attended Central High School, the Abbott School of Fine and Commercial Arts, as well as the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D. C. He was later commissioned to paint for the Treasury Art Projects program. Upon the onset of World War II, Jamieson was, once again, commissioned to paint; however, this time, he was requested to paint defense activities. Jamieson completed such works at the Glenn L. Martin Aviation Plant near Baltimore, Maryland. Thereafter, he was commissioned an Ensign with the U. S. Naval Reserve, and went on to matriculate at the Indoctrination School in Newport, Rhode Island. Jamieson was later assigned to serve in North Africa, where he would continue to graphically depict war scenes, especially that of the U. S. Navy. A portion of these works were published in Life magazine. JamiesonÕs works have also been represented at the Phillips Memorial Gallery, the White House collection and many other noteworthy locations.
