This is an original 1840 black and white steel engraving that depicts the castle of Betzko near the border of Hungary and Transylvania.

Legend has it that a knight and his jester were drinking one day when the jester, Betzko, pointed to a nearby cliff and announced that the knight should build him a castle in his name, and so it came to pass. They lived there merrily until one day, Betzko struck the old knight's dog. In a rage, the knight flung him off the cliffs onto the rocks below. Overcome with remorse by his actions, the old knight spend the next year in an alcohol-induced haze. This proved to be his downfall, when one day he passed out under the shade of a vine and awoke to the sharp bite of an adder. Crazed with pain, he ran headlong off the same cliff down which he had dispatched his fool, and his blood stained those very rocks below.
