This is an original 1855 black and white in-text wood engraving of the Château de Fontainebleau, located in France. It is among the largest French castles, and it was here, in the Cour du Cheval Blanc, that Napoleon Bonaparte said his formal farewell to his Old Guard, veterans of his Imperial Guard, before his official abdication in 1814.
