"Les Modes Parisiennes"

This is an original 1856 hand-colored steel engraving of two fashionable outfits for Victorian ladies. On the left is an evening dress, suitable for the opera, of ash-colored silk trimmed with three deep flounces. An elegant Spanish black lace mantilla, lined with green silk, is worn on the shoulders and is made with a hood that can be thrown over the head. On the right is a walking dress of purple silk with a double skirt and double sleeves. The dress is ornamented with lozenges of black velvet. A white crepe bonnet trimmed with marabout feathers and pink bows completes this charming ensemble.
