This is an original 1857 color chromolithograph of a portrait of Laure Regnaud de Saint-Jean d'Angely, who was married to Michel Renaud, the consort to French Emperor Napoleon I. Interestingly, Laure's mother, Michelle de Bonneuil, was a Royalist spy during the French Revolution and would travel throughout Europe after the family's exile from France to uphold the family's reputation and good standing among Europeans.

This historical collection of women of the Court of Napoleon in France, illustrated by Jules Champagne, not only contradicts negative popular opinion of Napoleon and his royal court, but, rather, showcases his benevolent influence over manners, art, science, morals and literature through portraits of the elegant and beautiful women of his empire. The originals of this collection primarily belonged to the Historical Gallery of Versailles, thus sealing its historical relevance and authenticity.
