This is an original 1857 monochrome in-text wood engraving of the Great Khan in Damascus, Syria There are several remaining khans in Damascus, however Khan As'ad Pasha is the largest, hosting caravans from all over the Middle East. Vendors could then go on to rest and sell their exotic wares. Today, the khan is used as a tourist site and houses the Natural History Museum of Damascus.
