This is an original 1870 lithograph that shows some examples of Italian, French, and German church paintings and mosaics including: Mary with the Child, Guido of Siena; Mary with the Child, Cimabue; Coronation of Mary, Mosaic by J. Turriti; Mosaics on the Facade of S. Maria Maggiore at Rome; Jacob and Isaac, Mosaic on the Cathedral of Monreale; Wall Paintings from the Apocalypse, in the Church of S. Savin; and The Mothers of Bethlehem in Mourning, a miniature.

This lithograph is from a collection detailing the history and beauty of architecture from prehistoric times through the 1800s. Due to the heavy stock of the paper, the original plate emboss can still be viewed in the margins of most lithographsÑa rare and highly desirable feature of this art. Our digital capture process enhances the visibility and tone of the foxing; however, in the original pieces the foxing, especially along the edges, is less pronounced. Virtually all foxing is restricted to the outermost margin and would be eliminated when framed.
