This is an original 1871 black and white woodcut of a section of the Apodyterium and Frigiderium found at the ruins of Pompeii, Italy. The Apodyterium was the Roman word for public baths. The Frigidarium was a large cold pool of water believed to close the pores of the skin and is used last in the Roman bathing method.
