Bartolome Esteban Murillo

Bartolome Esteban Murillo (1617-1682) was a native of Seville, Spain. He was most recognized for his religious paintings. Murillo studied under Juan del Castillo, as well as Velasquez. Later, Murillo served as president of the Seville Academy of Painting. Unfortunately, in 1682, during his work for the high altar of the Capuchin Church of Cadiz, he fell from a scaffolding, sustaining severe injuries, which, consequently, led to his death.
