This is an original 1874 black and white double-page wood engraving of a sketch by Jean-Francois Portaels (1818-1895) that portrays the festival and ceremonial rituals of the Aissawa religious brotherhood during Mawlid that celebrates the "Birth of the Prophet" Muhammad and occurs on the twelfth day of Rabi' al-awwal, in Tangier, Morocco, Africa during the Victorian era.
