This is a rare original 1875 color chromolithograph that portrays snippets of medieval art from the 15th century, focusing on the natural flora that would have most likely been native to the homeland of the various artists. Simple leaves and buds, in a myriad of bright colors, were organic staples of this form of artwork. Occasionally, and there are some examples of this here, animal and human heads would appear intertwined with their botanical counterparts.

A unique feature of this illustration, which may be difficult to see in the digital image, is the use of gold ink which not only shimmers when it catches the light but also accentuates some of the finer details that might otherwise be missed.
