This is a rare original 1875 color chromolithograph that depicts several fine examples of historical manuscript illumination from the 15th century. Rich designs of intertwined branches and flowers featured heavily, as the artists applied to their work everything they absorbed from the lush flora around them.

A unique feature of this illustration, which may be difficult to see in the digital image, is the use of gold ink which not only shimmers when it catches the light but also accentuates some of the finer details that might otherwise be missed.
