This is an original 1875 black and white wood engraving of an Aymara Indian Mummy at a Chullpa (Chulpa) located in the Sillustani, a pre-Incan burial ground near Puno, Peru. The Chullpa is an ancient Aymara tower and tombs, constructed for a noble family, in which the corpses were placed with their clothing and belongings. The Aymara people are an indigenous ethic group in the Andes and other regions of South America.
