"Women's Building"

This is an original 1876 color lithograph of the Women's Pavilion at the 1876 Centennial Exposition. Despite the work of countless women to bring their exhibits to the Exposition, "for obvious reasons this object could not be effected in the general Exhibition Buildings" and all women's work was relegated to this building.

The Centennial International Exhibition of 1876, was held at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Each lithograph in this collection is accompanied by an original one-page letterpress supplement with historical information (including dimensions and costs) describing the pictured building. Most images have the artist's signature embedded in the image and all have the lithograph publisher's imprint in the bottom right corner of the image.
