This is an original 1877 black and white wood engraving of the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles in Paris, France. One of the most famous rooms in the world, the halls were funded by King Louis XIV and built by architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart between 1678-1684 CE. At this time, mirrors were a luxury item because they were very expensive to produce. Several workers from Venice were brought in to create the mirrors for the hall since Venice had a monopoly on mirror manufacturing. It is rumored that Venice sent assassins to poison the workers to maintain their malicious mercantilism.
