This is an original 1882 monochrome wood engraving of the Matochkin Strait (Shar) between the Barents and Kara Seas on the Novaya Zemlya Archipelago in Russia. The strait is usually covered in ice, and it's was also used as a site for nuclear testing from 1963-1990.
