This is an original 1883 woodcut illustration of the monument dedicated to statesman, Henry Clay, in the Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Kentucky. The monument was erected in 1857 after Clay's death in June 1852. A marble sarcophagus in the vaulted chamber at the base of the monument contains the remains of this famous Kentuckian.
