This is an original 1884 half-page print article "Improved Safety Appliances Against Fires" with an halftone illustration of the Havens' Safety Appliances for Fire Shutters, invented by W. H. Havens, Paterson, New Jersey; or W. H. Chenoweth & Sons, Western Agents, Chicago, Illinois. The devices of Mr. Havens have been approved by the underwriters and Fire Department of the city of Chicago, where they were largely used, and also by Mr. Esterbrook, Inspector of Buildings in New York.
