This is an original 1887 black and white wood engraving of Alphonse-Marie-Adolphe de Neuville, the French painter known for his portraits of soldiers and scenes from the Crimean War, Zulu War and Franco-Prussian War. Neuville studied under Eugene Delacroix, and is remembered for illustrating the Hetzel edition of
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.
