1888 Chromolithograph 17th Century Chair Furniture Europe Carpentry Carved LCH4

161364_LCH4_056

This is a rare original 1888 color chromolithograph which depicts six beautifully carved wooden chairs which date back to 17th century Europe. Chestnut wood was an extremely common wood, as it had the look of oak, but was much easier to work with and aged well over time. Leather was also used, but as decoration and as gentle support in both the seat and back. 1 and 5 belong to the Fontainebleau palace, 2 and 3 were shown in a Central Union Exposition, and numbers 4 and 6 can be found in the Louvre.
