1888 Chromolithograph Ancient Greek Hemlmet Chariot Hoplite Uniform Shield LCH1

This is a rare, original 1888 color chromolithograph which depicts a fascinating variety of illustrations relating to transportation and the military of ancient Greece.

Top - 1 to 6. Greek helmets which offer varying degrees of visibility and protection - 7. A Greek chariot, built for speed and the hippodrome - 9. A luxurious chariot intended for heroes and gods - 8,10. War chariots.

Bottom - 14. A Greek soldier in traveling attire - 15. A Greek general in complete armor, taunting the enemy with a stone before engaging in actual combat. He still has his javelin, and his shield bears an intimidating scorpion on the front, most likely to represent the region or city he hails from - 16. Pelta, an elliptical shield - 17. A Greek hoplite - 11, 13, 18. Greek harnesses and bridles.
