This is a rare original 1888 color chromolithograph which examines fashion and armor trends in medieval France through funerary statues and a manuscript from Vannes .

Key Elements on Each Side

Left - Couple sleeping in a curtained bed from the 12th century, as depicted in a manuscript - Two statues from the doorway of Notre Dame de Chartres, 13th century, wearing long tunics over their hauberks, armed with swords, shields, and simple polearms.

Right (Top to Bottom) - Statue of Jean III, Duke of Bourgogne, wearing a tabard (with a matching shield) over his hauberk - Statue of Valentine de Milan, in a simple dress with a small dog by her feet - Statue of Bertrand du Guesclin, the Eagle of Brittany, wearing plate mail, his hand pointing heavenward - Statue of Jean II, Duc of Brittany, wearing additional mail and a tabard over his hauberk, his shield and sword by his side.
