This is a rare original 1888 color chromolithograph which offers a small glimpse into the lives of the indigenous Sami people from Sámpi, a cultural region of northern Europe that today encompasses parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. They are most commonly known as Laplanders in the English language, although the term Lapland actually refers to the province in Sweden of the same name, not the entire indigenous land of the Sami. Please note that these fascinating historical objects and native dress are only from Lapland.
