This is an original 1888 black and white wood engraving of the botanical gardens in Adelaide, Australia. Adelaide is the capital city of South Australia and was named after Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen who was the Queen escort to King William IV. The gardens were a part of the original plan but took a while to get approved and placed. They were also designed after the Royal Gardens at Kew, England and the gardens at Versailles, France.
