This is an original 1892 monochrome relief line-block print of the Grotta del Cane or Cave of the Dog, near Pozzuoli, Italy. This cave was known for its production of poisonous gas. Though the gas only rises a few inches above the ground, it had been common for tourists to safely enter the cave and watch small animals asphyxiate.
