This is an original 1895 halftone print of portrait sketches of arctic explorers by journalist Valerian Gribayedoff, who was credited with being the first to introduce drawings into newspapers. Men sketched include Sir John Franklin, Dr. Fridtjof Nansen, George W. De Long, Dr. Kane and Lieutenant Lockwood.
