This is an original 1895 black and white steel engraving of a portrait of Christian Wahl, an affluent businessman and prominent community member of Milwaukee County. Wahl immigrated to Milwaukee in 1846 from Bavaria. He was known for his works in the creation and completion of public parks in Milwaukee. Wahl's home on Prospect Avenue became a centre for the affluent German-American society. Wahl is perhaps most recognized for his works on Lake Park in Milwaukee, where a monument had been resurrected in his honor, though it was later moved to Wahl Park.
