This is an original 1895 black and white steel engraving of a portrait of Dr. Alfred William Gray, a surgeon and physician, who practiced medicine in Wisconsin from 1856 until his death in 1873. Dr. Gray also served on the board of trustees for the Milwaukee County Hospital for the Insane and the Northern Hospital for the Insane in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Gray had been affiliated with the Milwaukee County Medical Society, the Old Settlers' Club, the Wisconsin Archaeological Society, the State Medical Society of Wisconsin, the American Medical Association, the Milwaukee Club, the Wisconsin Historical Society and more.
Interesting Fact:
Before coming to Wisconsin, New York native, Dr. Gray, was the second surgeon in the United States to remove an ovarian tumor.
