This is an original 1895 black and white steel engraving of a portrait of Milwaukee lawyer and Republican politician, Thomas Wilson Spence.

In 1865, the Spence family moved to Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin. Thomas Spence began his law career at his firm in Fond Du Lac, named Coleman and Spence, which later changed to Spence and Hiner. Spence later became part of the law firm Quarles, Spence and Quarles. Spence also served as Postmaster for the town, as well as served in the Wisconsin State Assembly. In 1912, Spence died unexpectedly in the Wisconsin Supreme Court Chambers in Madison during one of his speeches.
